This autumn, "giant rice" standing up to 2.2 meters tall is swaying in the wind, bringing Yuan Longping's dream of "cooling off beneath tall rice plants" one step closer to reality. Taller stalks mean more than grain: they shade the water below too, opening the door to rice-fish farming that grows more food with a lighter footprint.
