万里送光明！湖南医疗队赴巴哈马开展白内障义诊

China's "Bright Journey" cataract treatment program for the Bahamas was recently launched in the capital city of Nassau. A team of ophthalmologists selected from Hunan Province will perform surgeries on approximately 200 Bahamian cataract patients. Yan Jiarong, Chinese ambassador to the Bahamas, and Darville, Minister of Health and Wellness of the Bahamas, jointly announced the launch of the program.

中国援巴哈马“光明行”白内障义诊项目日前在巴首都拿骚正式启动，由湖南选派的眼科专家团队将为约200名巴哈马白内障患者实施手术。中国驻巴哈马大使严家蓉、巴哈马卫生部长达维尔共同宣布项目启动。

Located in the Caribbean Sea, people in the Bahamas face year-round challenges of cataracts and diabetic retinopathy, caused by intense ultraviolet radiation, and compounded by severe shortages of local medical resources. In August 2022, Hunan Province and the Bahamas held a virtual signing ceremony to establish a friendship-city relationship between Hunan and Grand Bahama Island. Subsequently, the Bahamas submitted a request to the Chinese Embassy in the Bahamas, hoping to leverage the friendly ties between Hunan Province and the Bahamas to jointly launch a "Bright Journey" campaign, so as to help local patients regain their vision.

巴哈马地处加勒比海，强烈紫外线导致的白内障与糖尿病视网膜病变常年困扰民众，而当地医疗资源严重匮乏。2022年8月，湖南与巴哈马举行云签约，推动湖南与巴哈马大巴岛建立友城关系。随后，巴哈马向中国驻巴大使馆提出申请，希望能够依托湖南省与巴哈马的友好关系，合作开展白内障“光明行”活动，帮助当地患者重见光明。

In April 2024, a Hunan delegation visited the Bahamas, with its first stop being the launching ceremony of the "Bright Journey" cataract treatment program. With the initial dispatch of seven medical experts from Xiangya Hospital and the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University (CSU), and with this renewed collaboration, Hunan's sustained medical assistance has allowed the friendship between China and the Bahamas to take root and flourish in the sphere of people's livelihoods.

2024年4月，湖南省代表团访问巴哈马，首站就是出席“光明行”白内障义诊活动启动仪式。从首次启动时选派7名来自中南大学湘雅医院、中南大学湘雅二医院的医疗专家，到本次再续前缘，湖南用持续的医疗援助，让中巴友谊在民生领域落地生根。

Li Yun is head of the Chinese medical expert team and deputy director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Second Xiangya Hospital. She noted that the team is comprised of medical personnel from the Department of Ophthalmology at the CSU Xiangya Hospital and the CSU Second Xiangya Hospital, along with accompanying engineers from Beijing. The Chinese team are looking forward to exchanging expertise with their Bahamian counterparts, supporting the development of the Bahamian public health sector, and contributing to the advancement of China-Bahamas friendship.

中方医疗专家组组长、中南大学湘雅二医院眼科副主任李芸表示，此次成员包括来自中南大学湘雅医院、中南大学湘雅二医院眼科的医护人员，以及来自北京的随队工程师。中方团队期待与巴同行切磋交流，助力巴公共卫生事业发展，为促进中巴友好作出贡献。
